She will ask me. She will walk over to me and repeat the question. Who are we? Why are we too busy to do anything outside of work and eat and sleep and shit? We are too busy to do anything new or fun.

My job is to swim through piss and shit and find leaks. Leaks caused by rats mostly. No one knows what I do. They see a man in an orange vest and hard hat get out of the city truck. Climb down into a manhole.
I walk to the store most days. I purchase the everyday items that everyone else buys. These items change, but my trip never does. Deodorant. Bread. Beer. Cheese. Toothpaste.
I go there after work. I don’t bother changing out of my work clothes. I wander the aisles searching for the items on my list. There is something to be said for shopping with other humans. Everyone there all at once. I usually have conversations with the clerk.
