Now I’m fearless.
FEARLESS BY KATIE IRISH 34THPARALLEL MAGAZINE ISSUE 28
It’s pretty funny
when someone finds out
you’re divorced
& they feel obliged
to say, “I’m sorry”.
Well, I’m not sorry
to rid myself
of that cheating redneck asshole.
Now I don’t have to wonder
where you really are
when you say you’re working late.
I don’t care.
I divorced your ass.
Now I’m fearless.
And it’s really pretty funny
when the hottie former colleague
I slept with
texts me he wants me.
WTF is that?!?
You had your chance.
I’m fearless.
It’s also pretty funny
to be sipping wine
at 3:30 on a Monday afternoon
on my boyfriend’s porch
with my unemployed self.
I’m fucking fearless.
It’s also pretty funny
when people learn
of your MS diagnosis
& they make a sad face
& give you a hug.
I’m not sad.
It made me appreciate
all that I have in a whole new way.
Now I drink less
(or more—depending on the day)
and I smile at strangers.
It made me fearless.
