KORYO SONG OF CHICAGO BY SHARON BENTLEY VIRGO 34THPARALLEL MAGAZINE ISSUE 61

Chicago waaaaaahrrrrsss

Though Chicago is my home,

You stain me with your songs

I talk waaaaaahrrrrsss

Though I sing to the broken city,

You stain me with your songs

Instead of parting waaaaaahrrrrsss

Instead of parting I’d rather stop spinning,

You stain me with your songs

If you love me waaaaaahrrrrsss

If you love me, I’ll follow you with tears,

You stain me with your songs

Waves waaaaaahrrrrsss

Were the waves to crash on cement shores,

You stain me with your songs

Would the lake waaaaaahrrrrsss

Would the lake swallow me?

You stain me with your songs

Centuries waaaaaahrrrrsss

If I parted for centuries,

You stain me with your songs

Would my heart waaaaaahrrrrsss

Would my heart stay its beat?

You stain me with your songs

Chicago River waaaaaahrrrrsss

Not knowing its depth, the river,

You stain me with your songs

You pushed the ferry off waaaaaahrrrrsss

You pushed the ferry off, Captain!

You stain me with your songs

You left for lake water…
